Ben Helgemo, M.D., once considered becoming an obstetrician. But at some point during medical school, he realized he’d “rather be with newborns.” Passionate and serious about his profession, but relaxed and playful with his patients, “Dr. Ben,” as he’s affectionately known, says he can’t imagine being any other kind of physician. “I love developing long-standing, trusting relationships with families,” he says. “It’s such a privilege to be a part of a child’s life from when they’re born to when they head off to college.” Dr. Ben earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville and completed his pediatric residency at the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, South Carolina. Dr. Ben loves the variety of his job, but is particularly passionate about illness and injury prevention, parent education, breastfeeding, headaches and ADHD.
